ALTAR para las ABUELAS, Dia de los Muertos




This project was conceived by Adrian, La Tania and Nina Serrano. Thanks to the support of MARIGOLD project and Siouxsie Oki, we create a communitary ALTAR para las ABUELAS que estan en todas partes at the Garfield Park in the DAY OF THE DEAD 2006.

Days before the installation we was creating pieces of the altar to put together on November 2nd.

Day of the dead start with rain, fog and beautiful energy with the help of the Family and friends, Luis Arias –mi padre- and Maisa Arias –la prima Chiquita- y la siempre lista Anais Azul. Also we have amazing helpers like Luis Vasquez, Iris Clearwater and Joscelyn.

The Altar was open for the public during and after the procession, around 7:30 pm. People was bringing flowers, candles and stories about their ABUELITAS until midnight.

Nina Serrano was the abuelita -cuentista telling grandmother tales of the all the grandmothers who have struggled to pass
on love and blessings.
